Tower Grove Arrives

2005 March 8 by John

Tower Grove Park is a large and beautiful Victorian park located in south Saint Louis. When the sun is newly risen, and the fog has yet to dissipate, everything there seems awash in golden light. And with the park's strange, eclectic pavilions still half-shrouded in the mist, the effect is almost otherworldly.

It's this moment of sublimeness that we set out to capture in our latest IconBuffet addition, Tower Grove. While lofty in origin, Tower Grove is very down-to-earth in design, and should look right at home in all sorts of web sites and software interfaces.

And if you ever make it to Saint Louis, make sure you set aside a morning to spend in Tower Grove Park. Just make sure you can make it back to our quotidian world when your promenade is done.

March's Plugs

At Firewheel, we're truly privileged to work with great clients. We'd like to send a great big shout out to all the great companies and individuals we've been able to work with over the past few months. While we're not allowed to talk about all of our work, we do get excited when we can add new design examples to our portfolio. Today, we're happy to show off a little bit of icon design we did for Opalis. We hope you enjoy, and we're looking forward to adding a few more new projects in the days to come.

What do you get when you blend 50 different photographs by 50 different photographers tagged with the same Flickr tags? 50 people see...

While we didn't end up bringing home the bacon in the SXSW Web Awards, we certainly were privileged to be surrounded by an amazing masse of talent in Austin this last week. Props to Cloud King, winner in the CSS design category. Cloud King is a beautifully designed alternative art gallery on the web. Updated monthly, you'll find a host of established and new artists' works displayed.

Just had the pleasure of hearing Dan Pink make the case for the rise of right-brain conceptualism in the American workforce. His article of the same nature in WIRED a few months back was excellent. His latest book should be the same.

Got wireless? Going to SXSW? Hunt me down (I'll be the one wearing the name badge that says "Josh Williams") and you'll be hooked up with a few priceless pixels from our collections at IconBuffet. Be sure you have WiFi or Bluetooth... and if you're really crafty, just fire up iChat and drop me a line.

Stay tuned as later this week we'll be unveiling a new stock icon collection at IconBuffet. A lot of work has gone into the latest collection, and we're pretty pumped about showing it off.

Wow... well there went a month. During our office sabbatical last month, we re-located our offices a few suites down from our old location, and while we much prefer the new setup, our DSL has been down ever since. We finally went back online this last Friday. So shout-outs to Starbucks, T-Mobile, and Apple for keeping us powered remotely while our offices were offline.
